Phantom Wallet - Is an airdrop coming?
So... Is Phantom dropping its token?
It's been at least six months since everyone in Solana started talking about a potential airdrop related to Phantom and its possible associated token, but so far there has been no official confirmation from the team itself.
But, like nearly everything in the cryptospace, it doesn't mean it will not happen.
Better be ready for it and take all the steps possible to be eligible for when and if it is announced officially!
Step One: Use Phantom
Although it seems obvious, there are other wallets to interact with Solana, and all of them have their strengths compared to Phantom (no wallet-shaming here!). But if you want to be eligible for a potential Phantom airdrop, you have to use Phantom. If you already have a wallet on Solana (like Solflare or Backpack), Base/Polygon (like MetaMask), or even Bitcoin, you can import your address into Phantom and start using it instead of your usual one.
Your funds will be available on both wallets, and you will start "making volume" on your Phantom wallet.
Remember: a crypto wallet isn't really the one holding your tokens. All your assets are on the blockchain, in your wallet address. A wallet is just a piece of software to make everything humanly manageable.
Step Two: Create a Phantom @username
Some months ago, Phantom added the option to claim a @username for your Phantom wallet. Although it seems not a big thing right now, there are rumors going on about possible eligibility criteria regarding usernames and interactions between users.
If you haven't already, claim your Phantom username now, and start following other people—and ask them to follow you back! In SUS, we're keeping track of community members' usernames, so we can grow our followers and following numbers!
Step Three: Listen to the rumors
Since there is nothing coming from the team, better keep your attention focused on possible ideas, suggestions, or guesses going on Twitter/X or communities around social media. We're still in the speculation phase, so anything can go. Better be prepared!
Official Phantom post
On January 3rd, Phantom Team officially answered on X to clear out the rumours:
Although the Team clearly stated that they are not planning for an airdrop, things in crypto changes a lot. But at least for now, the airdrop related to followers and following users has been debunked by Phantom Wallet itself.
